Recruit training

Interested applicants must complete a polygraph examination and a pre-employment interview to qualify for recruit training at the Kansas City Police Academy. The applicant must have a high-school diploma or GED and be at least 21 years of age. To be eligible to become a citizen of the United States or a Kansas City resident, the applicant must also meet all the other requirements. All potential officers must be physically as well mentally as must pass a background inspection, medical, and psychological examination. After completing their training, they must begin working as a sworn KCPD officer.

The Kansas City Police Academy's 174th officer class is currently training for the field. The Missouri Department of Public Safety's Peace Officer Standards and Training program has certified the academy’s instructors. They are also law enforcement veterans with a lot of practical experience. It is necessary to be dedicated and committed to the police profession in order for the Academy to train recruits.

The Kansas City Police Department offers professional education in a range of fields, including patrol and criminal investigation. Officers learn the skills and attributes necessary to lead in the Leadership Academy at Kansas City Police Department. Participants will learn to be a leader, communicate effectively with others, and gain invaluable insight into the dynamics of law enforcement. A series of exercises is also offered that will help participants become more effective officers. The academy also helps police officers learn to deal with six common calls for duty.

The workshop in the Kansas City Police Department is led by Arbinger and other leading thinkers. Participants include FOP members and heads of KCPD departments. They also include some neutral individuals, and the workshop starts out as hostile but quickly turns into a welcoming environment.
